About the Class
Always wanted to learn guitar? This is your moment. Using blues, pop, rock, country, and more, Mark teaches kids how to play music together — in a real group setting, with real energy. It’s not just about the guitar; it’s about becoming a musician. The skills students build here translate to any instrument they pick up later.
Mark frequently switches to bass so students can take the lead while still having a strong musical foundation beneath them. At the End-of-Summer Concert, guitarists are joined by drummers and horn sections — and students are welcome to step up as singers too.
Mark is LCMA’s Director of Music Education and has spent over three decades helping students fall in love with the guitar. He is a graduate of the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver with a Master’s in Classical Guitar Performance. For 12 years, Mark has taught guitar classes for LCMA in many Littleton elementary schools and at East Community Center — meeting each student where they are and guiding them toward something they’re proud of.
• No guitar? No problem — ask us about instrument options
• All skill levels welcome — we start from scratch
• Students perform at the End-of-Summer Concert
• No student is turned away due to financial hardship — if you need assistance, just ask

Mark Stookesberry
Mark Stookesberry is LCMA’s Director of Music Education and has spent over three decades helping students of all ages fall in love with the guitar. Known for his ability to meet each student exactly where they are, Mark creates a learning environment that is both challenging and deeply encouraging — one where beginners feel at ease and more experienced players are pushed to grow.
A graduate of the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, where he earned his Master’s in Classical Guitar Performance, Mark studied under the mentorship of acclaimed guitarists Ricardo Iznaola and Jonathan Leathwood. He built his early musical foundation at Metropolitan State College of Denver under Alex Kommodore.
For 12 years, Mark has brought that deep well of training and performance experience into the classroom — teaching guitar through LCMA in Littleton elementary schools and at East Community Center. His students consistently leave with more than just technique; they leave with confidence, musicianship, and a genuine love of playing.
